Did some searching and found:Well I've been looking around and I haven't been able to find where can I get a new version of ffdshow which give support to XviD 1.0, you know, to avoid fliping the image and jumping/freezing/loosing of frames.
Which sounds similar to the problem I'm having. I made a video with FU36c and xvid rc1 and ffdshow will not play it properly no matter which decoder is selected (simple/xvid). The video flashes like every other frame is black and the video that does show up gets black blocks in it. Uninstalling ffdshow and using the xvid decoder does solve the problem except that I was counting on ffdshow to be a universal decoder. Is this incompatablility being looked at?
