I have a Margi dvd-to-go card for my notebook (it's basically a video processor for dvd's and has tv out). It will apparently play ifo's, vob's and mpg's, but not avi's. I have some dvd's that I converted to xvid avi's. Can I convert these to mpg's, so that I can use the card?

hi,
well that doesn't really make any sense as they are coded in mpeg4 instead of mpeg1/2. converting them back to mpeg2 would mean a huge loss in quality not really worth sacrificing to play it on your video processing unit.

and i hardly doubt that you can make your unit believe to be playing mpgs when it really is playing mpeg4 content.

I want to use the card for its tv out function, rather than the video processing (at least, for this application).

I'm not quite sure I understand this. Are you saying I won't be able to convince the unit I'm playing mpeg1/2 when I'm really playing mpeg4?

I suppose I could follow one of the guides for avi->dvd-r to convert the xvid avi back to dvd. Or I could store vob's (or iso's) on my notebook's HDD, but those take much more space than xvid's, and I don't have a whole lot of disk space.
