Hi all out there,
I got a very big problem.

I captured my old Video8 Family Tapes and want now to edit them.

My Problem is that I didn't find a Program / Tool that satisfied my requirements.

All I want to the Tool to do is that it sharps my video and maybe restores a little bit the colors (but that isn't so important).

I hope anyone can help me because that old tapes are really important.

I recommend you buy a Canopus ADVC-100, plug in your camcorder or your VCR, and capture the video in DV format via Firewire to your PC. There you could try a DV editing program like Ulead VideoStudio or Pinnacle Studio to edit the video, but I would recommend another method, because you said you wanted to improve the video. And there's nothing better than AviSynth and its filters to do this job. Being a beginner you need to read the AviSynth documentation first to get used to the scripting. Don't worry, it's not as difficult as it seems at a first glance.

So install AviSynth, and follow the "DV to DVD" guide in the DV forum. You'll need to experiment a little with the filters and their settings, but you can get amazing results. For many tasks there are multiple filters available, e.g. for sharpening and for colour correction.

Another way to get good quality video without buying extra hardware is what I did recently: Connect the VCR to the graphics card's video in and the sound card's audio in plugs, and use your favourite analogue capture program (I use VirtualVCR or iuVCR, but you can use VirtualDub, too). I usually choose the lossless Huffyuv codec or PicVideo's MJPEG codec to capture, then I use CCE to encode to DVD compliant MPEG-2.
