Is that IVTC or what?

Dear all,

I'm trying to figure out if this tape, is IVTC.
I've uploaded a sample to http://takis.host.sk/bw-sample.avi (~24MB).
The pattern shows something like:

IPPPPPPIPPIPPPPPPIPPIPPPPPPPPIPPPPPPIPPIPPPPPPIPPIPPPPPPPPIPPPPPPI ...
where I is interlaced and P is progresive.
I also noticed that there are duplicate P frames
I'm usually handling PAL tapes, so I would apreciate your advice on how to handle this one.

It is not Telecined, which is the process to go from 24fps film to 29.97fps.

Instead, it looks like it may have been shot at a much lower film speed, then converted to 29.97 NTSC. For example, Regular 8mm film is transferred by speeding it up from 18fps to 19.98fps, then putting each frame on 3 fields (1-1/2 frames). It looks like some sort of similar transfer was done, but at a much lower framerate, such as around 9.99 fps.

I recommend leaving this video at 29.97 fps, and not worrying about the duplicated frames. To remove the interlacing (which are half frames from the film transfer method), you can use a DeComb filter to reassemble the complete frames, such as:Telecide(guide=0,order=1,post=0)I tested this (after converting your source to YUY2 colorspace), and it seemed to work fine for removing the artifacts.
