View Full Version : DVD Decoding Speed Drop...help

Got a question:
When I first got my computer, it had a 16x DVD-ROM drive in it. Shortly thereafter, I began to decode some DVD's to make .avi backups so I wouldn't have to use the disc. Anywho, I began using CladDVDXP for the decoding and was getting great speeds. I then moved to DVDDecryptor when I found this site. Also, great ripping speeds. Approximately 15x.
Then my HDD crashed and I reinstalled and eventually upgraded to Windows XP Professional. I was still getting the great speeds.
Recently, I moved all of my hardware out of the current case it was in and onto a new motherboard and into a new case. I also purchased a GeForce FX5950 Ultra.
Now for the problem: I no longer get good speeds. Now, the max I can decode at is 2.0x and an average of 1.5x. DVD's that used to take 15 min to decode now take an hour and a half. Do you have any suggestions of what the problem might be and how I can fix it?

Thanks in advance,

Mnl

Hi SilentRipper

Is it possible for you to post some more detailed info on your motherboard ie chipset used, brand, model etc?

That will make it easier to find out what your problem is.

Here's my stats:

-ECS Elitegroup 648A-FX Motherboard running the SIS-something chipset (I don't quite remember)
-Intel Celeron 2.4 GHz processor (2.0GHz original clock)
-Unknown 256 Mb DDR DIMM RAM (PC2100)
-Chaintech nVIDIA GeForceFX5950 Ultra w/ VIVO
-Floppy Drive
-8x CD-ROM (just a secondary CD drive)
-50x CD/ 16x CD-R/W /16x DVD-ROM drive
-HP Pavillion v70s 17" monitor (15" viewable)

I think that about does it. I need a new processor with a higher L2 cache and another 256 or 512 or RAM.

Make sure DMA is enabled on the dvd-rom and hard drive.
Also, did you could try to delete the ide channel in device manager & reboot. When winXP finds read errors, it slows down the speed rate of the ide channel the error was on. Maybe during the switch over XP ebcountered some errors or got confused.
Well, one or both of these SHOULD help....
Good Luck.
