VirtualVCR: Best Color Format for capture?

I'm a laymen when it comes to color formats. I'm capturing ntsc television with the HuffYUV 0.2.2 codec @ 640x480. The Huffy settings are set to: Field threshold = 240; YUY2 Compression meth = Predict median(best); RGB Compression meth = Predict grandient(best);

Now I plan on converting my vids to deinterlaced divx and play them back on a tv thru a standalone divx player.

My question is, does virtualvcr's color format video setting make any kind of difference in the quality I will end up with based on the info I gave above? Under what circumstances would I want to change the color formats? The choices I have are RGB24, RGB555, YUY2, and YVU9. I'm currently using RBG24. I'm trying to get top quality captures and anything I can do to increase the final product would be nice :)

Most capture cards, when told to capture in an RGB format, capture natively in a YUV format and convert from YUV to RGB on the fly. Most likely when you're capping in RGB24 your hardware is actually just capping in YUY2 and converting to RGB24 before passing it on to your capture program. I'd suggest switching over to YUY2 to avoid the unneccesary colourspace conversion, it's just taking up extra HD space and CPU cycles without giving any real benefit.

Best choice is capture in YUY2.

thx for that info. I did switch to YUY2 and its using 48% less disk space than RGB24 was. I can't really tell a picture difference but the saved space definately is a plus. thx.

The native program ("TVFM Tuner") of my "borrowed" capture card does this exact same thing. Problem is, I haven't found any program that really works other than the original.

It's using InterVideo SDK (that's what it says when shutting down anyway). I don't know how to edit the codec settings, any suggestions? (yeah I'm dumb, I know..)

I've been using virutalvcr since the thread started. Works great.
