I just bought an LG 4040B and a generic USB2 external enclosure and I'm having a strange problem. I'm running this into a Dell Inspiron 5150 or Latitude C840 computer. The problem persists on both machines.

Using Nero 5.5, I can burn data DVDs onto +-R and +-RW and I can burn video DVDs onto +RW format discs but I cannot burn video DVDs onto +-R discs. I'm getting a SCSI error when trying to burn the video. (Link to logfile included at the end of this message). I've tried burning from the ISO image file, from a virtual DVD and from the original source DVD. The DVD is not CSS encrypted or copy-protected so that is not an issue here.

LG wouldn't help me because I have the drive in an external enclosure. I just don't understand why it works fine with Video to +-RW discs but not to +-R discs. Anyone else have this issue and a solution?

posted 25 jan 2004. I look to be having the same problem but with nero 6. The only work around i have found is to produce the ISO image using IMGtool 091, and burning using DVD Decrypter. Works every time and only adds 15 mins to the process. IMGtool controls Decrypter and bunrs directly once the iso is produced. I still have no idea why nero is falling over on this, and have posted this problem in a number of forums with virtualy no replys. Hope this helps let us know.

Then What if DVD Decrypter says Disc Not Empty???

I've been through the same problems as you.
I've tried reinstalling windows, both 2000 and XP.
I've updated my burner's firmware. I have an LG Super Multi (4040B)
I've installed the latest ASPI drivers.
I've tried with Nero, latest version.
I've tried using DVDShrink and IMGtool 091 to convert to iso.

Nero says "Disc not writeable" or it writes until it reaches 3% and then stops with errors.

I am using DATAWRITE RED media. Maybe these medias are not compatible with my burner???

My burner works fine with normal cds, by the way.

My blessings to anyone who will help
