I think you will all agree that ever since the, separate DivX forums were joined together to form this combined 'DivX Encoding' forum, the 'stickies' situation got a little out of hand!

Anyway, here's my proposal to cut down on the clutter...

If other forum members can think of other threads that might prove useful, please post the links below.

EDIT: Please note that this proposal has been modelled on the 'Most Excellent Audio Codecs Q&A' - Thanks guys....

Cheers

DivX 3, 4 and 5 Q&A

Welcome to the reorganisation of the DivX 3, 4, and 5 FAQs. These FAQs address many of the most commonly asked questions. Your first resource in converting should be to follow the Doom9 guides or the more specific DivX guides. Before posting in the DivX forum, make sure you've read over any relevant guides and the FAQs in question.

The goal of these FAQs is to inform users about how generate and play back your DivX encodes at the highest possible quality.

As always, search before posting and remember the forum rules. Breaking them will be a quick way to get your thread closed or deleted. Cheers and good luck with your encodes.

Lost your DivX codecs (and other codecs)! Then follow - How to... 'Resurrect your Disappearing DivX5.x.x Codecs' (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=439497)

If you currently have DivX5.1.x installed but need to 'Downgrade' to an earlier version. Then you will need visit the DivX.com web site and download the Big Fix Pack (http://forums.divx.com/viewtopic.php?topic=54711&forum=1)

If you want to know everything about DivX (but was afraid to ask). Check out the Official DivX User Guide (http://www.divx.com/support/guides/DivXGuide51.pdf). This essential bit of reading, comes to you in a PDF format and weighs in at a staggering 117 pages (6,171 KB). So there's bound to be something in there you did'nt know about!

Users of Dr.DivX, might find this new Dr.DivX guide (http://www.divx.com/divx/drdivx/guide.php) helpful

If you are wondering why DivX5.1.x is slower at encoding that previous versions, then check this thread out (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?threadid=69749)

Thanks SeeMore; I've been thinking along these same lines. The current combination of stickies is so very cluttered.

The team had a brief discussion about doing something like this, but to date, no decision has yet been made.

Thanks for the support jggimi,

I know I've bugged you about this before but doing something like this will mean we will end up with just 4No stickies instead of 12No!

I just hope all the DivX mods can agree on something soon.

Cheers

nice work SMD :)

i like they way making all the threads unsticky and simply link to them from an ultimate sticky

but maybe its also a good idea to leave the 3 divx3/4/5 stickies sticked and add links to the other threads into the 3 stickies as they fit?
like the link to divx5 adware in the divx5 sticky aso...

If you explicitly imply in the name of the sticky thread that there are DivX 3, 4 and 5 FAQs in it, that could solve both issues (gaining space for new threads and make it easier to find useful info). Like "DivX (all versions ever) FAQ".

You could still do a russian doll architecture with one (sticky) related to the 3 versions (unsticked) threads, etc.
Good idea to mention the guides, btw. Al and thekid would be delighted.

Calling all DivX forum mods.... Any 'stickies' news yet?

Sorry,

but I feel I have to ask the question again?

...Maybe none of the DivX mods are interested because they're all too busy using XviD ;)

We've talked about it in the past, but of course, haven't done anything about it. I'm going to "unstick" a number of older stickies, and produce a "metasticky" for them, as has been done in the DVD2SVCD Basic forum. It seems to have worked well there.

Another plus for doing that way is it's easy to reverse if we find it isn't working: we can re-stick the unstuck threads, and delete the meta.

EDIT: Not "older" -- instead, I'll unstick some less used stickies, based on number of views.

Done.

Great....

.... but is there any reason why all the DivX Q&A's can't be lumped together into one sticky instead of three?

Cheers

Nope, I'll do the same thing with them!

Thanks jggimi,

When you've done I guess I'll delete this thread so it does not confuse people...

... unless you want to do it?

Cheers

No, lets leave it here. Both of the two new metastickies are closed; if there are concerns or problems, this thread can be used to discuss 'em.

OK then. That sounds sensible!

Thanks again jggimi :D
