Hi

I've encoded Where Eagles Dare in GK with a vbr mp3, without automatic file-splitting because I wanted to cut where I wanted. And then, when I opened the 1.3 GB file in VDubMod, at the outset VDubMod informed me that it is customary to use cbr mp3, and if I proceeded with the cut, then an askew audio will result.

So I had to encode the ripped audio track to cbr mp3 with GoldWave, mux it with the video from the GK-produced DivX, and then cut. The result was perfect, as expected, but with a cbr mp3.

The questions, however, are these:

1. How can one cut a DivX .avi with a vbr mp3 into two parts, each containing vbr mp3 ?

2. How much difference in filesize results if the audio in a DivX is in vbr rather than in cbr ?

3. Is there any really understandable difference in the auditory experiences of watching two DivX files of the same movie - one with a cbr and the other with a vbr audio ?

Thanks.

Regarding lastio question:
Well, there isn't really much difference. Expecially last vesion of Lame has some "very slight" advantages in vbr and abr modes. But you will probably notice this only on very low birtates - 128 and below.
Actually it depends on your ears. I personally cannot hear diff between 160 and above.
