Hello all, this is my first post ( i have to say that this have been the longest 5 days of my life, did you knew they make you wait 5 days before you can post!! )

ok i have one problem now and its called :scared: OverScan :scared: can some one tell me how to fix it? ( when i make my superbs dvds using adobe encore, or any otre program ( even my vcds ) they get like one inch cut off my tv ( or dvd player ) is cuting it i was reading this forums and one guy sais he was using TMPGEnc Plus to add borders to the avi file so the tvt will cut the borders and not the subtitles top corners etc. i tried but with no luck if any of you can pointme the rigth direction i will be more than greatfull.

in TMPGEnc's "Other Setting" under the Advanced tab, change the Video Arrange Method to "Center (custom size)" then put in a resolution directly below that. for my ntsc movies i enter 700 x 440, and it works great, give it a try.

I think that by overscan you mean that you do not see everything on the TV what you can see forexample in the PC screen?

This is how TVs work, at least the analog ones :-) I don't know what kind of an issue this is in the new plasma and lcd screens. I think this overscan on safety-area is documented in some specification for TV broadcasts or such.

At least in those video editing tools (for PC) that I have seen have a feature called safety-region which can be set on top of your video you are editing so you can see what is left out. Then in addition to this there is a text-safe area which is the area that "definately" will be shown in every TV.

Normally people notice this overscan/safety-area "problem" when they edit their DV filmings. They use the PC software to edit and they add some text etc etc... And after they have their brand new DVD playing on TV they notice that something is wrong. And usually they blame first the software they have been using for mysteriously "cropping" out their videos :-)

That's weird about the bars being on only two sides of your image...i've never had that problem. Are you sure you're using the right option > Video Arrange Method set to Center (custom size) and changing that size? because the dvd standard resolution is 720 x 480 in north america, so shrinking that just slightly (700 x 440 or something close) should take care of your problem. the fact that yours (590 x 410) is closer to the original video size (640 x 480) makes me think you're changing the actual resolution, not the size of the displayed video within the standard resolution (actual image with black bars around it that fill out the full 720 x 480). although, a dvd file with a resolution of 590 x 410 shouldn't really even be playable, so i dunno if that's what you're doing. just make sure your final mpeg's resolution is in fact still the full 720 x 480, with the viewable video slightly smaller within that (700 x 440 or 680 x 440, etc), and you've got it right.

(p.s. sorry for all the parentheses :p)

this is hard to explain well for me everithing is hard to explain lol, but here it goes dvd resolution is 720X480 or somting like that rigth? so i start the wizard chose dvd resolution mpg2 audio then chose 4:3 dysplay as outtop option or xsomting like that, then i go extra options ( at the botom of the wizard ) where i chose center, customise so first i did what you said 700 440 and my tv dint show subtitles so i started going down form 10 by 10s and made about 68 30 second videos and i started cheking them on my dvd player when i finally got to the video 38 or close to that i cant remmeber, i could se everithing but now the video had a litel black line in the botom and a big about inch or half inch in the rigth side of the scren. its fina because is not really cuting the video i can se how i supost to see. i was ( not he was ) happy with it but my freaking adobe encore dvd thingy desided that the frame speed wasent rigth ( not 29 ) after i did freaking 68 videos with the SAME setings and he burned them. i was so mad i went to get my 550 back form the guy that sold me the program he dint want to but he saw i was mad he ende up giving it to me as store credit so now i have money to buy another one, i will buy another one only if i fail conecting my computer to my tv ><. ( i think i get the big rigth line and the small botom line because my tv is to old. i have to try it with a new tv like the one in the livingroom but the living room has a old dvd player and dosent play my dvr+ dvd's or my minidvd's. do you know of a good way to watch divx in the tv? with out spending more than 550 dollars and 50 dollars each 2 weks for 25 dvd's ><?

I'm sorry you're not having much luck. there must be some other setting in tmpgenc that's not right, of which there are many, so if you haven't followed a guide on making dvd compliant mpeg-2's, you should make sure your settings match one of those. as for divx on the tv, there were a few divx players in existence that were like a pay per view thing where you could rent discs, and they deactivated after 24 hours or something, and you could pay for longer, then your billing info would get sent out over a phone line connected to the player. i'm not sure any still exist, but they had the best quality divx to tv. other than that, there are many ways to connect a computer direct to a tv, varying in price and quality. or, the sega dreamcast actually has some homebrew divx players (and vcd players) but they're barely watchable, due to the weak hardware, plus you can't use cd-rw's without tweaking the laser (not recommended). check out http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html for some info on connecting comp to tv.
