I'm using DVD-Lab 1.3 and I have a chapter selection menu with a motion background. All six links on the menu link to six different copies of a short m2v that continues the motion background as a transition. Is there a way to like from each transition clip directly to a different chapter of the main movie without editing the IFO? and if not, can do you do it with IFO edit?

Uh - don't think I got it but this might help a bit:

How to go from Menu -> Transition -> Film
1. Add a new menu
2. Drag the first frame of the movie to it as a background.
3. Create a transition Menu1->Menu2 (a Transition file is created in your assets window)
4. Set "Still time" or "Time out" to " 0 "
5. In Connections window draw a connection from new menu "time out" to film.

Alternative for 4. and 5.

4a. Delete the transition and new menu.
5a. Add new "movie" and drag the transition video from the assets to it.
6a. Draw a connection from new movie to real movie.
7b. Change link on the button in main menu to link to the new movie (transition movie).

Hows that ?

Thanks for the speedy response, but its not the answer i'm looking for. I want to go from a transition clip after a menu directly to different chapters of the same movie. This way, when you select a chapter from the menu, the transition plays, then the main movie plays, starting at the selected chapter point, and not from the beginning. I doubt there's a way to do it without IFO editor, but I don't know the first thing about IFO's. I think maybe somehow with "black" menus like in the Multiple Audio Streams guide (http://www.photosyndikat.de/guides/multiaudio.htm) and IFO edit it might be possible to link from a transition movie to a chapter point of the main movie. Anyway, its something for you experts to munch on for a while ;-)

Yes its possible - IfoEdit can change the command that DVD Lab makes when you link to a film (link to a chapter instead)
I'll get back to you later on ....

GREAT! I had assumed it was possible, but like i said i don't know the first thing about ifo's or their editing possibilites :( any light you can shed on the subject would be most appreciated :D

Actually you can do it easily with menus.

1. For each chapter button (don't forget DVDLab names the chapters wrongly) create a menu and put your transition as a moving background in it.
2. Draw a HotSpot in each transition menu.
3. Link it to Chapter #
4. In PBC set time out to "0" and Force Active to "1"
5. In Connections window draw return from movie to Root

That Work ?

wow that's a good idea. i'm having trouble with my multiple audio streams, so i haven't been able to test it, but it seems like it'll work in principle. i'll let you know. thanks a ton :D

Well I tried what you said but instead of making the transition the moving background a menu that lasts zero seconds...i just made a copy of my transition movie for each chapter link, then linked those transition movies to separate menu's with the hotspot linked to the chapter, and put the time out to 0 and force select to 1. In BlazeDVD, everything worked perfectly how I wanted, so thanks a ton for the help - i must say my connection's page is insane, but whatever works. for some reason, BlazeDVD plays back my main movie very choppy, and WinDVD freezes on the main menu. my RCA dvd player, which is renound for playing almost anything, froze on the main menu as well, so i don't know what's up with that. probably something with my multiple audio streams. anyway, thanks again, i wish i had thought of it myself! :)
