Hi,

I am trying to make a backup of my DVD. I have done this a few times before and never had problems. I´ve already converted it to an AVI. Now I use Virtual Dub to cut it in 2 pieces. The thing is, it gets out of sync starting from about 1/4 to 1/2 of the first cd and all of the second cd. What can the problem be? Please help.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I'm sorry, but we're simply not going to be able to help you with that little information. What process did you use to convert to avi? Was the AVI in sync before splitting? What type of audio are you using?

If appropriate, we can move this to a different forum, but we're going to need more information to give you any assistance.

Hi,

Yes the audio was in sync before splitting. The audio is 48000 Hz and is Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec 2 Channels Stereo 103 kbps (6.84% Overhead)

I hope this will help.

Thanks

Well, let's try the question this way:

I made a DivX file (with GK) with a vbr mp3 audio stream (and of course an mpeg-4 video stream) and later I wanted to cut the DivX into two parts, each with vbr mp3. VDubMod, at the outset issued a VDub warning that since it's customary to use cbr mp3, proceeding with the cut anyway would make the audio askew. [And, sure enough, VDubMod was true to its promise.] I had to convert the audio stream into a cbr one, and then cut it with perfect results.

So how does one cut a DivX file with vbr mp3 audio into two (or more) parts, each with vbr mp3 ?

Thanks.

Was my question too basic or too dense ? Tell me that, at least.

DivX + vbr MP3 *can* be cut in VirtualDubMod. I haven't had any problems with that at all, never. The warning you get is just that:a awarning. Skip that, and don't convert to CBR. Do a direct stream copy and select split at, in the save as dialog box. Then you're done. Get latest version of VDM (latest exe).

Yep, I've ignored the warning and was home warm and dry.

But there's a point: I've never yet been able to complete both the audio and video conversions (MPEG-1>>DivX) together in the VDubMod: the reason being that there's always (so I've found) something in the audio stream and VDubMod quits suddenly before completion. That's why I always extract the audio separately and transcode into mp3, encode the video stream into DivX .avi with VDubMod, and mux. Rarely, however, I've been able to get the final video in perfect synch.

Is there some other method that will yield better results ?

Regards.

There's a lot of programs to mux, try Avi-Mux (search google :)), I think it should also work fine.
