alright.... heres the issue...
my friend just got an ipod... beautiful with 20 gigs of space.... i used nero to encode some aac files from a cd i had (polyphonic spree)... for some reason the ipod didn't like the nero aac... but it liked the aac made with itunes.... is the aac different?.... i thought that both was HE type aac.... will he have to use itunes to rip every cd that he wants to put onto his ipod?....

This thread may be of interest: Guide to iTunes-compatible Nero-encoded AAC (http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/show.php/showtopic/14447).
Also see the AAC FAQ linked in my sig. AFAIK the iPod does not support HE-AAC.

alright... i think i get the idea of not wanting the mp4 file.... and i was able to use dbpoweramp to demux the aac from the mp4 file... heres my next question... is the difference between nero aac and other aac within the aac stream? or just the mp4 container?...... i have this question because i tried encoding an aac in besweet... and it wouldn't demux the aac.... anyone know this?

both things are 100% defined in the mpeg-4 standard
if i get it right the problem is a bug in itunes, and from what menno said apple already knows that and future versions should fix this problem

okay... this is slightly confusing then... because i'm told that the nero codec is the best aac codec for encoding audio..... if its no different than other aac codecs... why is it better... or is it even better?.... and at that point... why are there so many different aac projects going on?

look aac is part of the mpeg-4 standard, which standardizes the aac compression format
this allows everyone who wants to do it to write its own codec, and all streams are complaint to each other (well thats the purpose of a standard)
so to say technically they are all the same, tough some are more tuned for quality and some not...
btw exactly the same goes for mp3 (mpeg-1) or video (eg dvd aso...) - there are many different mp3 codecs available, but all complaint to each other
