I just encoded three files to MPG from VOB using DVD to VCD SVCD AVI Converter. All are 720 X 480 resolution and all use AC3 audio encoded at 224 kbs. The audio defaulted to this and I did not change it. The audio really only contains two regular stereo channels. Should I have changed it’s bit rate?

I encoded files one and two at 8000 kbs with different Motion Qualities. Upon import to Dazzle it states that both ARE DVD Compliant. For the third attempt I encoded at 9860 kbs and Dazzle says the file is NOT DVD Compliant. I am looking for the greatest compliance for store bought DVD players. So my question is: What is the definition of DVD Compliant?

9800Kbps is the upper limit for DVD bitrate (I believe the exact spec is 10.08Mbps for combined audio+video+mux overhead bitrate).

Thanks,
I am not sure what Overhead (mux) would be, but if I left that out then I would need 9800 – 224 audio = 9576 video bit rate correct? How can I guess at what the Mux Overhead bit rate might be?

you can run search on 'mux overhead' etc and find some further details but here is a thread where mpucoder gives an explanation and some figures
