This is a question regarding the legal issues of copying DVDs in the UK.

If I wanted to copy a DVD of my own, purchased a few years ago but no longer have the receipt, is that legal in the UK?

I have no problem with film companies getting shirty with downloads and copying of material not owned by the person. I am a bit of a film buff, and recently bought an Elta 8883 mainly to play DVD. I also wanted it to support MPEG4 though, so I could play legally downloaded trailers such as The Matrix Revolutions. (http://whatisthematrix.warnerbros.com/)
I also wanted to play with DVDs of my own, such as Memento and Pulp Fiction, and put them into chronological order, possibly using Divx and Nandub to chop and append the avi segment.

So my question is: Is it legal to do that in the UK? (or anywhere for that matter?)

Many thanks.

If the UK DMCA is anything like the other flavors, it will include shady passages that basically exclude private copying (that's what you want to do) from criminal prosecution when circumvention copy protection, so it is legal. Obviously, the MPAA henchmen would like you to believe different but it's really a matter of interpretation of the law. As long as you stick to fair use (so don't go handing out copies in a schoolyard, supermarket, train station etc.) you should be fine.

FYI and to save you a lot of trouble: The Memento DVD has the film in the correct order already on it. It's an extra but it's well hidden.
It's easy to find on a PCs DVD player by just looking at the title sets.

Thank you. I'll have a closer look at Memento.

I think if I do get round to doing Pulp Fiction it'll be just for me on a CDRW quickly erased after watching.
