Damn capture card won't even work!

I bought a recent BT878A from Leadtek (WinFast TV2000/XP Deluxe) and the damn card doesn't even work.

Using the provided software (with updated software and drivers from the Leadtek site) the card is RECOGNIZED but not utilized as it seems! When I use it in Vdub it slows down the program and I still can't use the damn thing anyway.(No picture being seen)

VirtualVCR also cannot use the card.

Using Btwincap was even worse, the drivers were incompatible with all software, the included software could not find the card, Vdub didn't even load it, and VirtualVCR could not even find it.

So basically.......WTF?!

Your post is a bit lacking in detail.

Included software often only works with the included drivers. So if you switch to the BTwincap drivers, you are better of with the various alternatives.

Vdub is a bit tricky under w2k or xp. It may work, and then again it may not. Do a search on the words "vfw directshow wrapper" in a vdub forum and see what comes up. For testing, start with virtualvcr or even the primitive amcap.

What OS are you running? It "sounds" like some sort of IRQ resource contention, or, perhaps, a driver install that didn't go smoothly. BTWinCap for example, with WME, needs to be installed after the devices are recognized by the OS (as "Other devices") ... not before. It complicates the install.

But there's not enough information in your post to provide you with assistance. For example, what does the device manager tell you about the devices? What state are they in?

Well Device Manager keeps giving me two unknown devices in the "other" list ever since I've had the card.

But under "Sound, Video, and Game controllers" the drivers for the card are listed.

But wait! When I click for their properties the audio one says no drivers are installed... Whereas the video one says no conflicts. So wtf?

Another question is are these even supposed to be in the "Sound, Video, and Game controllers" list?

I'm not at my capture PC so I can't answer exactly how my BT878 is configured. They may indeed be in the Sound/Video/Game controllers section now.

But I do have the BTWinCap drivers installed, and this is how I went about it on my WME platform, to the best of my memory, which isn't very good. When I hit my 40s, I began to suffer from C.R.S. syndrome. I just Can't Remember what that Stands for anymore. Started the BTWinCap install application, and had it remove every capture driver it could find. That's one of the options of the install application.

Rebooted, so that WME would find the devices and attempt to install them at start up.

Allow the operating system to attempt to find a driver CD or driver diskette, and fail. The found device(s) would then appear under Other Devices / Unknown Device with big yellow question mark icons. If I clicked Cancel, or pressed the Escape key, it wouldn't create the unknown device entry.

Re-ran the BTWinCap installer, this time to install the BTWinCap driver. It found the "unknown devices" previously created during that boot. The unknown devices would then become known and put where they belong. I don't have a Leadtek card, so I can't answer as to why their supplied software isn't working for you.

Well I e-mailed LeadTek almost a week ago and no success.

I tried several times to install via Btwincap and then install it's own drivers but that didn't help.

The two 'other' unknown devices are part of the tv2000xp. The full list of drivers for the card are:

4.WinFast TV2000 XP WDM TVTuner

... get those last two working and you'll be set :)

Yeah but the computer cannot find them...

EDIT: Oh wait, I got the drivers for the crossbar and Tuner on now! But neither Vdub not VirtualVCR have any success seeing the video... Should I still convert to BTWincap drivers?

Also, VVCR says I must set the country code.....I'm not sure if I have it right, I'm in the US and the country code defaulted on VirtualVCR is 61...Is this fine or should I change it?

I have the Leadtek TV2000 Deluxe capture card and use the BTWincap drivers fine with VirtualDub VCR. I am using Windows XP with SP1. One weird thing too is the BTWinCap Audio driver in device manager says that no driver is found...but the audio captured is fine. I thought that the BTWincap drivers wouldn't work with VirtualVCR since its a WDM application. Maybe if you use a vfw-wdm wrapper? Also my country code on my captures is set to 0. I've tried even 1 before and its worked but 61 seems wrong.

Yes, I believe 61 is germany. I use country code 1 for the US. As far as your drivers go, I say try out the BTWinCap if you can't get the winfast ones working. Let us know what happens :)

BTwincap is just as bad as the regular drivers....nothing can preview video and I used country code 1....nothing.....

WTF I don't want to have wasted my $50 on this thing! I'd have to return via FedEx if I wanted to get my money back.

I've found that if the audio driver for the card won't install, then
you have a lack of IRQ for it; seems that the audio portion will not
share irq's.

You might try putting the card into a different slot.

Nothing works it seems....I've tried the supplied drivers, updated drivers, and btwincap..which seems to be even worse!

I don't want to have to ship the damn card back, there obviously has to be something wrong that I'm doing.

Can you tell us what operating system you are using?

Also, what Video card do you have?

I don't know if this will help, but many TV/cap cards won't work with dual CPU systems, just my 2 cents worth, so that you can rule this out if it is or is not the case.

I run a dual CPU Athlon system.

Works fine with my Leadtek XP card

bt878a is old, but is quite well supported.
make sure you don't have any old crappy manuafacturer/whatever drivers left on teh system, and let btwincap isntaller remove and reinstall its drivers.

Also, you should be getting a "unsigned driver" warning box when btwincap installs. Of course you should hit "yes" there, but if you aren't getting that dialog, check in system properties,hardware/driver
signing, to make sure that action isnt set to "block". maybe you
never get the drivers installed, that's why it doesn't work.

As for testing, try amcap.exe that's available on btwincap site.
selecting video and audio sources should show full menus in that app, and then you can poke around with preview (overlay, smart tee) and
video sources.

Also you can download DScaler off www.dscaler.org which should allow
you to at least watch TV (to confirm the card is operating) since it comes with its own drivers for the bt cards.

Leadtek XP, is it expensive?

The ones I tried weren't top of the line, and the manufacturer confirmed the dualie issue, but if leadtek works....

G'day,
I'm just now trying to get my own WFast 2000 XP working with vDub.

Boot your computer in safe mode using the F8 key. Go to device manager and check for multiple listings. Surprised huh? Now delete ALL entries of those with mulriple listings (don't leave just one as it maybe the wrong one). Now reboot, your system should reinstall these drivers, point the wizard to the appropriate drivers. When your finished, reboot then reboot again to Safe Mode and check there's only one of each driver.

Maybe this will help, I hope, as mine is not yet working with vDub. I'm just looking into BTWinCap to solve my problems.
