Arita X4 Ritek Discs

OK normally i buy Traxdata dvd-rs, they have the ritek dye.I burn them at X4 and they work perfect.Now i just bought a load of Arita X4 Ritek dye discs from blankdiscshop as they was selling cheaper, speacial deal or something.
Ive burnt three films on the at X4 just like with the traxdata, and on one film the picture strats messing up really bad near the end of the film, and the other kinda pause's at two points in the film and goes blocky at those pointsonly for 1 or 2 seconds, The 3rd film though play perfect all the way through Now there not bad encodes and i cant see that there bad burns as they play fine if i skip to that point of if i play em in my pc,xbox or ps2.But when playing the film from the beginning all the way through thats when it happened.Have only run the films all the way trough on my standalone.Now the laser on my player may be dirty, but it plays originals through perfect.And plays the traxdata disc fine. Now could it be a media problem i think to myself, but how could it if both disc's use the excact same dye.

Any one else have any problems like this ??

If it does come down to it being the discs, if i was to buy some more traxdata's and do a 1:1 of the copy would it be ok as i dont really wanna store these films on my hdd.

I think there's more to a quality DVDR than just the dye it uses. For example, quality disks probably have the dye laid down very consistently, the same thickness across the entire surface, and with no chemical variations, and no microscopic bubbles.

Also, I believe blanks have some fine structure - a spiral groove or series of concentric circular grooves. I forget what they call these fine structures, but it is another area that can distinguish hi quality from low - are all the grooves the same depth and width, and is their separation consistent.

Lastly, ignoring any fine structure, how flat and level the disk is affects quality. If the disk is even slightly thicker on one side than the other, it would throw laser focus off slightly, and might even unbalance the disk. Even laying the dye layer thicker on one side of the disk than the other might be enough to lower the quality significantly.

The problems you describe are very much a sign of low quality media. Analysing the specifics of why low quality media acts the way it does (for example, plays fine when you skip to the chapter but messes up when you play from the beginning) is pretty much futile. I certainly can't explain the inconsistent behaviour, but inconsistent behaviour is exactly what bad media gives you.

Only you can answer your final question. Try ripping from the problem disks. If they rip okay, you're probably safe to keep them as archives till you can redo them on reliable media. Of course, there will always be some risk - if the media is unreliable in one way, who knows what other ways it might be flawed; it might degrade quickly.

OK, im gonna run one of the films again from the beginning see if it mess' up again, as my bro reckons its just a dirty laser, as the film the messed up at the end of the disc, the first time i put it in the player the intro messed up, then when i came to watch it the intro played fine.

They seem to run fine on the ps2 and xbox, plus for xbox and ps2 games there ok.


But that sucks if it is bad quality media, as both Arita and Teaxdata are both ritek brand names, but the traxdata could be better quality in the way there made.

i have also bought the Arita g04's from blankdiscshop. I was suprised at there low price compared to other g04 available, traxdata and the ritek branded purple. However i knew that Arita is a brand name of Ritek so i bought them.
Results so are far are excellent, as good as any g04's i have used, (such as datasafe, clonedisc, dvd master g04' etc).
They all have verified in nero after burn, and checked some in nero cd speed also, and the curves are very satisfactory.
Just wanted to share my results with you, they have impressed me, and will be buying more of the Arita again. :)

MMMMMMMM ... What speed did you burn them at ??

Maybe my lense is dirty, or maybe they was bad burns.Although if it was a bad burn it would do it at the same place everytime.Strange.

Hi, burned all at x4, nec 1300a f/w.1.8 And just tested my (Arita) master backup of Silence of the Lambs in Nero cd speed.
Perfect curve on the green line. :)

P.S. straight line on the yellow 1/0 line also. :)

I just ran that nero speed test on the disc that went really messed up at the end and on the disc that got a little pixelation in the middle of the film and both had a perfect yellow line and a perfect green curve line.

But when the test gets too the end i get a error ' logical block address out of range (052100)
