how to rebuild an ifo from 2 vobs

Hello,
I have a dilemma. I have ripped several DVDs to my hard disk using DVD Decrypter, but I ripped only the main movie vob - but my hd is fat32 so the vob was split into two files. And the ifo file was screwed up so I deleted it.

So my question is how do I burn these to a dvd that is watchable in a standalone?

I think I need to rebuild an ifo using vobeditor and ifoeditor, but I don't know how - the guides on doom9 are not specific to my problem. Do I need to somehow combine the vobs into one? The vob files are still playable through the "view media files" option in PowerDVD, but when I try to use DVDShrink or CloneDVD I get an error (because there's no ifo). Keep in mind I don't have the original anymore so I cannot do a re-rip. Would it be a good idea to convert to NTFS?

If you have any advice I would be most grateful.

Hi an welcome to this forum! :)
Remember rule 1: after reading Doom9's guides, do a search: this question has been asked a lot of times...
However, have a look at this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58041): you'll find useful information about joining VOBs with VOBEdit and recreating IFOs with IFOEdit.
BTW, FAT32 should allow 1 GB files (the standard VOB size), it's quite unusual that you found a larger VOB.
Since you said that your VOB was split in two, I suppose it was split quite randomly, so before recreating the IFOs follow the joining procedure: you'll still obtain two VOBs, but probably with correct nav-packs and so on.

Would it be a good idea to convert to NTFS?I don't think it's a good idea. I think it's a GREAT idea!:D I actually started with Win98SE FAT32 and I eventually, I hated that 4GB limitation. Upgrading to WinXP was grand. :D

I have tried using VOBEdit to join the clips, but then when I performed the join clips operation, it outputs a vob file that is not the complete movie (i tested it in PowerDVD). Is it necessary to rename the original vobs to VTS_01_001.VOB and VTS_01_002.VOB?

And finally, once I've got a working vob set and an ifo set, I need to create an image before burning, is that right? Is imgtool the best program to use for that purpose?

No! You should change the settings to file splitting (1GB)!

You got it, man :) After that, open the first one with VOBEdit and start the joining procedure.
As for imgtool, I really can't say if it is the best program to use, however I think there's no need for it, just use IFOEdit (Disc Image button). But remember that with FAT32 you won't be able to create images larger than 4GB...

Thanks again for all your help. Just one more question: what is the advantage of creating a dvd image? I used DVDShrink to squish down all the files so that they'll fit onto a DVD-R, after which the program told me the files are ready for burning. So I burned them (as a Data project in Sonic RecordNow, my burn software) and voila, the disc works fine! :D :D :D So ... why would anyone need to create an image before burning?

Taken from Doom9's Burning DVDs guide:
...you can create a disc image file first and burn this using any software capable of burning disc images. Initially this was the better solution as some commercial programs (especially Nero) had problems burning a VIDEO_TS folder. The discs created this way would often not work on a standalone. But if the same program was used to burn a disc image, there was no problem whatsoever. Fortunately, this has changed since but the tools to create an image are still interesting because they do not require any commercial software...

You can burn your images with DVD Decrypter (BTW, I love this feature, I use it also with non DVD images :D )
