Hi,

When I change the display size does it only affect the AR or will I get the size I put in?

The only reason I ask is that I think the larger the video display size, the more CPU power is required.

From what i've seen the X axis is usually stretched.

For example... I have a movie with pixel size 716x424 and to obtain the correct 2.35:1 display ratio I have made it 998x424.

I'm thinking that 716x304 would help playback on lower end CPU's.

Thanks

CPU load is only affected by the number of pixels in your encode, the stretching/correction for playback ( i guess thats what you mean with 'display size' ) is done in your video card and should be no extra ressource hog ....

he actualy want to resize an anamorphic RMVB into 640x using matroska. But... real resize can't be done whitout reencoding, so changing the display size won't affect the needed CPU to play the file.

Does this mean I cannot resize the y axis at all to get the correct display size using the matroska shell extension and mpc?

yes you can, but it won't reduce CPU usage.

OK I can live with that, thanks.

But does anyone know why changing the y axis using the shell tool makes no difference to the display size?

The only one that seems to make a difference is the x axis.

Or is this more to do with RV9?

Thanks

I actually have no idea how resizing with MPC will work if the RealSplitters from Gabest are used, i actually never investigated.

TCMP (http://corecoded.com) will work in any case and in both directions ( x and y ), as it will read the display size directly from the matroska file using the matroska CDL coming with it.

All other DirectShow based players rely on DirectShow to obtain this information, as appended to the VIDEOINFOHEADER2 struct. For MPEG4 codecs this will only work with latest Xvid decoders ( thanks to sysKin, who implemented it ) and older ffdshow build ( in November build from Athos some team members had problems when 'use overlay' was activated ) for DivX 3/4/5 playback.

No idea what Gabest did to make that work with RV9, and if there is maybe a restriction to one axis ... we have to ask the RealVideo specialists here i fear ...

anamorphic works on both axis :)
