Easiest DATABASE for a Site

I'm new to web site building, and I was wondering what would be the easiest way for me to build a web based database that I can use to sell things with?

Any ideas?

Hi

all databases are alike, since they are using SQL. At work we use postgresql on linux, but the easiest way would be to get "EasyPHP" which install apache2, mysql and php4. The esaiest means also security bugs, less performances.

If you're building a commercial site, I strongly suggest that you build a linux server with postgresql.

Installing gentoo can be hard. But it pays off so much. If you think linux is slow, just install Gentoo and watch your computer move. Also back up your database A LOT. I helped run a site once that had a MYSQL database and it would die every week. SO I had to go in and restore the 10MB database every week because of our crappy host.

postgresql is a lot more stable than mysql, and supports more functions, like triggers.

Don't install things like mandrake or Redhat, you'll get like 30% performance loss.

the guy (?) needs suggestions, supply him with some.

bottom line, it all depends on the application. for a small scale site, anything will do, for better performance, higher load and stability, more specific options myght be considered. it also depends whether he needs a complete 'package' including commerse framework, if he's gonna program it all by himself, etc.

if u want better answers, pls supply us with more details. your post is quite cryptic, and you shouldn't be surprised for the answers u got so far.

but even better, post your question on a board that deals with websites. this board is about audio and video.
