Hi,

I have just recently bought a Gigabyte GO-W0404A dvd writer. I own a Pioneer DV-414 dvd player (standalone). I use Nero 6 and DVD shrink 3.1 to compress. I also have the latest firmware (although the last official ones came out last year, so they do seem old), I also run XP Professional.

Now the problem : When i burn a dvd on the pc, and play it back on the Pioneer, the movie plays perfectly until the last few chapters. It then begins to freeze and jump, making the rest of the film impossible to watch. I use Imation DVD-R's (2x). I have tried burning slower, faster, etc, but nothing helps. The logical thing to me would be the media. However, my brother burnt me some movies on his dvd writer with the same software and the same disks, and his play back 100% on my Pioneer, right to the end. I have taken my faulty disks over to his place and played it on his Sony standalone, and they play perfectly there, right the way through.
The skipping disks also play perfectly on my pc, with no jumping etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Does your brother use the same burner, same firmware revision? Not every burner will handle all types of media well.

he uses a different brand of burner. Perhaps my writer does not like Imation very much :(

Imation is just labelling blanks. You can use advdinfo and see who manufactured your dvd-r.
