View Full Version : Frustrating Problem Playing AVI files

My friends used their FUji digital camera to record video, and they gave me a short avi movie from the camera. It plays fine on their newer computer, but will not show up on mine--only the sound plays. This happens with some other (but not all) avi movies. I use WMplayer 7.01 to play them (windowe 98), and I have tried to dl other software players (Real, QuickTIme,Player), and none of this works. Windows MPlayer acts like it will work, as it attempts to dl a codec, but it never accomplishes anything with whatever it does and all I get is the sound. Does anyone have any advice? I'm pretty sure I cant get the new wmplayer 10 because I dont have win 98se. THanks

Ask them what codec were in use. or if its not codec, then you may need to install the application used by them to copy it on their computer.

Probably MJPEG.. See if VirtualDub can open it as it has an internal MJPEG decoder.

BUt it happens with other avi files as well, not just the one from their camera.

Thanks a lot--VirtualDub plays it. Thank you very much.
