Hi,

I have a question about Scenarist.

If I generate a project for a DVD9 (with around 6G), does Scenarist produce 2 DVD-R for layer 0 and layer 1, or I can only do that with a DLT tape?

I have done several masters for duplication on DVD-R and so far so good, but I do not have a DLT and the next project only fits on a DVD9.

Sincerely
Camafe

I haven't done a DVD-9 project so far, but Scenarist should output 2 DVD-5 Images. :)

Won't work: you need 2 DLT tapes, 1 for layer 0, 1 for layer 1. Companies that create glass masters only accept DLT. They can't restore the image from DVD-R. I've tried it with my first DVD9 project ;)

Thanks for the tip! Good to know when I happen to come to my first dual-layer project. :)

Good question!

I think Scenarist will make it possible in a next version (or update maybe), but I think there has to be a workaround in Maestro.

When I make DLT's (in Maestro, Disk Image Creation), I have to use 1 DLT for each layer (see above post). It creates 2 images (1 for each layer), so I think it may be possible to save the images on HD, and burn each image on a different layer (if the burningsofware supports it).

But are glasmaster companies going to accept the DL media? Not for the first few years I think. CSS and Macrovision can also only be stored on DLT, and I think that won't be possible on DL media aswell.

Just my 2 cents...

i didnt think glass masters could be made from DVD+RW(DL)s - it would be nice to be able to burn one and showing it off before making a DLT - i currently use Scenarist 3 Pro. i dont want to use DVDMaestro if i dont have to - Scenarist is easier for me

Here, in Greece, all of the 3 dvd factory plants, accept plain simple dvd-r for glass mastering and reproduction, more than a year now.

I dont think that we r more advanced than the rest of the globe so I believe that this capability is deliberately obscured.

Isn't it better to present your work to the client and sent the same disk for replication saving yourself a 3 hour wait?

yes it is - i cant wait til the DVD+RW(DL) comes out and the day you can take it to the mastering plant and make a glass master - without having to make a DLT first - <not being sarcastic>maybe i should move to greece</not being sarcastic>

Why don't you "DVDshrink" your compiled project and then show it? It's not the same quality, but your client can approve the menu's etc.

actually i have the clients come to the studio - i compile the DVD and they watch it on our CRT monitors via the hollywood+ card. it would be nice if i can bring the test presses to the clients for a preview instead of them coming to me - i want them to be able to view the test pressings at 100% quality so they can actually see what they are getting - im not going to tell my clients that the final DVD is going to have better quality - i want them to see what they will be getting.

making glass masters from Dual Layer DVD+RW will be as easy as using pressed dvd-9's, which is 'you don't'.

when pressing plants accept pressed DVD-9s as masters for replication, then they will be able to accept Dual Layered burnt media.
