View Full Version : DTS Audio CD -> raw DTS problems

I have a lot of CD-images of DTS Audio CDs. However, I don't want to burn these and play them on my CD since I'm aiming at a PC+A/V Amp only system where all my music is stored on the PC and played via SPDIF thru and properly decoded in the amp. For some of the images that I have my re-encoding process work, but for more the most part the resulting sound is very disturbed with clicks and other strange noice (but you can still hear that the music is there).

The process that I use to convert the cd-images (or DTSWAV files) are:

1. wav2dts or DTSParser to change from DTSWAV to WAV
2. Hypercube Transcoder to split the files in seperate channels
3. ssrc to resample them from 44.1 kHz to 48 kHz
4. Recreate the DTS file via SurCode DTS

Now I can play the file via the DTSSource filter and use SPDIF-thru in the Intervideo audio decoder.

The somewhat lengthy splitting processes is required since my soundcard (Creative Audigy 2) SPIDF only supports 48kHz and all the images are in 44.1 kHz since that is the standard for standard CD players.

The bad quality is already in the wav-files after step 2.

I haven't found any real clue to why just some of the images work. In the case where the images are in BINARY format (it says so in the .cue file anyway) I mount the files and rip them EAC and there doesn't seem to be any recoding done there to the wave. In the case of WAVE format images I try to recode them directly.

If there are someone out there that has had any experience in this it would be interesting to get some feedback. One theory that I have is the discussion regarding VBR and CBR and that the problem might be that the CDs I have are encoded with VBR but the PC->AMP SPDIF only supports CBR, but I have no method of checking this any further.

Cheers
