Wow DvdShrink sure changed

I haven't been around lately and I come back to find a new version of DVDshrink!! Amazing!

I didn't know he'd add a burning option in there...very cool.
I can't wait to try it tonight.

By the way, it appears the new 3.1.3 version doesn't run over a remote desktop link.
I'm used to using remote desktop to process DVD backups from work...oh well :(
It shows the process running in task manager in XP but the window never shows up.

I had one question...since you can burn DVD-R's now...how do you guys do it? Is it even possible to backup a disk on the fly? Or does it create a temporary image file somewhere before burning?

1) using Nero 5 or 6 specify burner and it'll burn VIDEO_TS video files.
2) using Nero 5 or 6 choose 'image recorder' and it'll create an .nrg image from VIDEO_TS video files. Later you can choose to burn with Nero or DVDDecrypter
3) autoshrinkiso choose 'image only' which will create an .iso and you can burn later with DVDDecrypter or you can tell autoshrink to automatically burn the .iso once it's created.
4) autoshrinkiso with CopyToDVD which will burn the video files directly.

I am having problems on my second computer and Shrink. Downloaded 3.1.3 and the install goes thru with no problems. When I try to open the program the window never comes up even though the Task Manager (in XP Pro) says it is running. I have uninstalled all other versions of Shrink (which all ran fine) and reinstalled 3.1.3 and still no joy. Any ideas!!

It never fails to amaze me that people don't find if their problem has been reported or fixed at the DVD Shrink official forum (http://forum.digital-digest.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=62). A lot of DVD Shrink users do post bug reports over daily. In fact dvd shrink, the author, is usually answering posts more at his house than here at Doom9. Though right hand man, ddlooping, makes his dialy rounds here and at other forums too. ;)

try 3.1.4 beta 1 and set to preview to 'built-in software renderer'...also try disable nero in preferences.

Well, 2Cool, I have read the post you refered to and nothing is mentioned about this problem. The only reason I mentioned it was it was brought up in the start of this thread and wanted him to know he was not alone. I asked for help and got only sarcasm as a reply. Thanks anyway, I will work out the problem on my own.

Also , Thanks to you Mr Bass. I will try your sugestion with 3.1.4 b and see if that works. I have always enjoyed your commentaries and use your website frequently for updates, problem solvers and many of the best guides on the internet. Thanks again

I think the question is refering to the burning option in new DVDShrink 3.1.3 and not in general.

I don't really like the forums over that digital-digest. Jeez...

Sorry if I was uncool to anyone. :o Must be the crappy weather playing with my mind. Anyways, I've been there and here and due to personal obversations, bugs reports are more reported at digital-digest. It makes sense as it is DVD Shrink's official forum. So if a certain problem has been addressed, it probably had more responses there than here. That's the logical reasoning. Besides, dvd shrink, the author, tends to look over the bug reports there more. Again, just my observation. ;)

Is it even possible to backup a disk on the fly?On the fly for me would be without imtermediate files on your HD. There's no way to use DVDShrink to do that. The only program (to my knowledge) that can handle on the fly transcoding and burning (requires a DVD-ROM and a DVD burner), is IC8. It can burn and transcode at the same time.

Does Nero do this differently? Nero is what I use and I always thought it worked the same way.:confused:

Going back to my earlier post about Shrink 3.1.3 not opening the GUI but showing up in the Task Manager as a running process.....I right clicked on the Shrink folder and opened properties.....not much to do there but, for the heck of it clicked the box "run in 640X480 resolution"....closed out and there they were....3 of them stacked one on the other. Of course they were way to large to work with. Put the comuter back in the normal resolution....GUI will not open...

I think I have found the enemy and, he are us!!!

Try and deleting the registry entry below and then start DVD Shrink. That way DVD Shrink will restart with all the defaults...see if that helps can't hurt.

Well I don't know what happened there.

The DVD Shrink settings will also be reset if you uninstall and then re-install, for those of you not comfortable with regedit.
