Can any one check if the file "test movie.avi" from ftp://zsp.pcz.czest.pl plays smoothly on mt1389 based players? This are only two minutes of very complicated scene from "A bridge too far" with ac3 audio. On my 4Tune (Technosonic) MP-101 this piece skipss like hell. Probably on any other sigma designs em8500 based player it is not possible to play it smoothly so i would like to see if MediaTek (or Ess) can handle it properly.

Plays fine on my elta 8883 (MediaTek) from DVD.
I can check playback from CD and ESS based player tomorrow.

Elta 8883:
DVD - ok
CD-RW - not smooth

Yamada 6100:
DVD - ok
CD-RW - ok

so the Yamada has the faster CD drive.

Kiss DP-450 - skips
Technosonic MP-101 - skips

i don't think if it is drives problem. Sigma Designs em8500 is not fast enough to decode so high bitrate :(

I see its DivX 3, so it is surely possible that the Sigma chip is not fast enough because of the software emulation with DivX 3.
But as you can see with the elta 8883 (MediaTek) its not easy to play such a clip from CD even if the chip is fast enough.

Works fine with the Xcard (Sigma based chipset)!

But I have to say, I'm surprised that a crop and resized encode running at around 2000kbps doesn't look all that good!

Medion 7457 (Mediatek-based)
CD-RW - ok (also tested with 4000 KBit clips, no skipping)

Mediatek-based players can handle DIVX 3/4/5 with up to 10 MBit.

For example you can fast forward up to 4x smoothly without skipping. ESS-based players are powerful, but only half as the Mediatek-Players. For the average user this power is enough. I tested some files with resolutions like 720x576 and quality-based encoding at 100% with XVID. In this case the ESS-based players are stuttering, the Mediatek plays it smoothly. :)
