View Full Version : Possible to re-encode part of VOB and put back in DVD?

I have finally managed to re-auther Terminator 3 the way I want it with just the main menu, chapter selection and the movie.
The files are just too large to fit on a single DVD-R. Because the size is so close I had the idea of re-encoding the credits only and leave the movie untouched.
The credits start half way through the last VOB, and acording to IFOEdit, they have their own chapter at the position at which I would encode from (Chapter 33 [V/C ID 1/35]).
Is it possible to strip this cell, re-encode in CCE, remux and replace into the DVD structure leaving the rest unaltered.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers, Beastie.

Cheers, Beastie. Brainstrom: It is posibble you can demux your movie PGC into cell ids using Smart Ripper as it can demux hard drive files. Then you can use ReJig on your Chapter 33 VOB to transcode and then remux m2v back. Then it is a matter of joining your cells through VobEdit and using IfoEdit to correct the IFO when doing a mock strip. Just a theory and it sounds like it may work. ;)
Other than that, how far off are you over? You could use DVD Shrink in Deep Analysis to shrink it down to proper size.

Great idea, but it seems my reauthoring wasn't as good as I thought. I found that cells 31-35 are unreadable and the end of my movie actually appears in cell 30.
When I rip with SmartRipper, it splits my cells OK, but the cell for the chapters is not where it should be. The chapters are part way through a cell. I really screwwed this one.
I think I'll keep my movie only rip for now and try this technique on my next attempt. I'm glad I tried though else I wouldn't have known that the movie was borked.
Thanks again.
Cheers, Beastie.
