View Full Version : Shouldn't AC3 2.0 be stereo?

Hello,

I have been doing all my audio tracks as AC3 2.0 to save space on the DVDr. However, when I play them, my home entertainment center shows all 6 channels are active. What really sucks is that it sends just about all of the audio (diaglog, music, effects) to the center channel. I use Vdub to uncompress the file then Soft Encode to make it into a AC3 2.0 file. I do a verify on it and it says 2/0. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

I did notice I can manually change my theatre system to stereo and it sounds a lot better.

Sounds like your home theater receiver is doing a Dolby Pro Logic upmix on a non-pro logic source. This is what most receivers will do if you attempt to force 6 channel output on a 2 channel source. Just keep it on stereo.
