Slow Hard drive speed

My hard drive speed has slowed. Had a problem with 2nd HD, changed itself to PIO mode. Got it back to UDMA mode 5 by re-installing driver for primary IDE. How can I re-install IDE controller drivers to see if this fixes my slow problem. Thanks

go to:

control panel > system > hardware > device manager > ide ata/atapi controller. Here delete your primary and secondary ide channel.
Then reboot.
If all goes well, windows will reinstall the ide channels and set everything back udma. Worked for me under winXP.
I'm not sure if it i'll work on other versions.
