remuxed video back into a menu, possible problems?

I have a menu with 5 VOBIDs, each containing a 30 sec long menu (with buttons). I demuxed by VOBID using vobedit. Then for each of the 5 mini-vobs I used M2Edit Pro to save a 1 frame m2v and then remuxed this back into the vob using vobedit. I then joined the clips using VobEdit. Finally I used IFOEdit to update the IFOs and menu vobs.

Seems to work okay in my standalone - the audio plays in a 30 sec continous loop but there is just a still onscreen - but could this be troublesome in some standalones? I suppose what I'm asking is, is it DVD compliant? (/me prays for an answer from mpucoder :D).

You just want to shrink your menus, right?

Nope I wanna make them stills, i.e. 1 frame of video instead of 750. The reduction in file size is much greater than transcoding to a lower bitrate. And reauthoring the menus myself from scatch isn't something I want to do.

Like I said, it works in my standalone, I'm just concerned it may not work in some others at some future point in time :)

Yup, I know. I was referring to the prospect of reauthoring manually using stills to get guaranteed compliancy. Should have been a new paragraph =)

Basically, what I did follows your method, except instead of transcoding the stream I've trimmed it down to one frame. And especially given Maestro doesn't allow the audio to be longer than the video in a movie or menu (it just cuts it off), I'm concerned it could cause problems.
