Is tmpgenc the best program to join mpg files together ??

or are there any other really good ones, i ask because if i try and join svcd mpeg2 files together,once it gets to the swap point the audio drops miles out of sync, and when joining vcd mpeg1, it gets a squeak noise in the audio right on the join.

Or a program so that i can join the video with tmpgenc and join the audio separate with a different program.?
