I know this sounds stupid, because there are always advantages and disadvantages of audio codecs, and if you want keep the quality, just don't conver the audio.
But I like to know what is the best audio codec if you look at filesize/quality ratio. For now I think aac is the best and I'm already using that, but maybe there is somekind of codec that I dont know of that even rulles aac (maybe somekind of alpha stage codec)?

yah. MPC is a higher bitrate codec, but it's transparent (ie. you can't tell it from the source in a double-blind listening test) at around ~180kbps (VBR). this gives it the edge over pretty much all the other codecs, but the only real difference between codecs at this bitrate is with problem samples. the problem with mpc is it's no good for movie soundtracks as it's (current) stream format is very ad-hoc and difficult to mux into other containers.
if you're into lower bitrates, or hardware compatibility then go MP4/AAC.
if you REALLY want compatibility then mp3 is the way to go. practically everything plays mp3 these days... i've seen digital cameras with the option.

sorry for not using the search :D
But thankz for the reply. I'll try MPC anyway, maybe its good enough for me, otherwise I'll stay with AAC/MP4
thankz
