View Full Version : DVD-R problems on my KiSS DP450 - Help !!!

Hello everybody,

This is my firs post here, so plz be patient ... ;-)

So, I already bought a Pioneer 106D DVD Writer and some DVD-R Princo. I bought these DVD-R because my KiSS DP-450 reads all two formats (DVD+R & DVD-R) and Princo were the cheapest ones.

Then I burn 3 DVD-R's with 4 DivX movies each. On my PC, everything went OK.

Then I started to try to play them on my KiSS DP450 (latest firmware), and there started problems... At the beggining it seemed that everything was goin well, but suddenly I noticed that very often during playback, video became less sharper and some frames continued to remain (as a sort of "shadow") abowe the next ones. Obviously, in 2 or 3 seconds, the image became sharper again, anyway that causes problems to the audio/video syncronicity.... I mean audio plays before video ... ;-(((

I've already faced a similar problem on CD-R's but in that case was compressionn's fault, especially I had some problems with 3.11 DivX Codec that is not suported natively by the KiSS DP450.

But, in this case, I have the same problem with all the DivX movies that i put on the DVD-R's, and all of them are different from each other (different codecs, different bitrates, sizes (from 500MB to 1500MB) and so on...) and all of them have the same problem

I've read that DVD-R's are less "precise" during burning than DVD+R's.

Is that my problem?
If I try with a DVD+R, do you think I will have better results?
Do you thing it might be Kiss fault (maybe it doesn't like writable DVDs)?
If the fault is Princo's DVD-r, may I copy them on DVD+R or I will have the same result (may I "save" my movies)?
What about my DVD writer (what do you think)?

Thank you very much

Bye

Hi pecorazza,

Welcome to the Doom9 forum.

Don't panic, what you seeing is something that happens to digital video when it's compressed!

There is plenty of information about what you describe on the forum, together ways how to improve the quality of your encodes.

It sounds like it's very early days for you in the 'world of enoding' but given time (and a lot of reading) you will soon be encoding with the best of us!

Cheers

OK, thx a lot SeeMoreDigital

Just one little thing: I did not encode myself all the movies that I burnt. As I told before, I had the same problem in the past, but not very often.

The fact is that ALL THE MOVIES that i burnt on the DVD-R Princo, seem "corrupted" on my KiSS Player, but they play all OK (I mean ALL) on my Personal Computer.

Thank you very much once again

Bye

Try better quality media or burn on lower speeds. This might be a media problem.

I burn @8x (Arita 4x media with Plextor 708a) and my DP-1000 does not have a problem with it. However, cheap media is known to cause problems.

Good luck!

Good luck! Very true. Cheep media can play havoc with your encodes!

I must admit I don't know why more Mpeg2/Mpeg4 DVD players (especially the new generation of ASP players) don't have network capability!

Thank you everybody for all your answers.

I think that I found what the problem was (partially I suppose)

I just powercycle my KiSS, and it seems now that DVD -R's play better.
It was the first time I used DVD-R's on my KiSS (I just bought it), and after powercycle it seems working better

What do you think?

Thx once again
