Sorry if this has already been asked, I did try searching, but ...
I notice some channels are 1920x1080i and some are 1920x1088i
but both are 16:9
1920x1088 = 16:9 so what is 1088i
is everything stretched slightly?
are there just 8 extra pixels that I should just cut out to make it 16:9?
Thanks

Based on my limited experience transcoding HDTV, I would say just crop the 8 pixels (equal amount from top and bottom of course). HDTV usually seems to have noisy junk at the edges anyway.

Of all the stations that come up as 1088, the 8 extra pixels are usually just a white line. none of the broadcasts in my area ever had any content in the bottom 8 pixels.
so I'd say you can safely crop it away.
Besides, even if it did, i seriously doubt you'd notice the distortion introduced by resizing to 16:9 AR.

ok thanks. I usually do crop it, I just wanted to make sure.
I haven't had any real problems with it.
FOX is what gives me the most problems, with their 480p, their strangely centered 4:3 content and their poor deinterlacing. :mad:
