please help, nandub keeps crashing on 2nd pass

recently, nandub has been crashing when it starts the 2nd pass. it has never done this before, so i am really worried since i suspect it may be my new vid card causing the crash. i managed to encode dumber and dumberer, and dark city, but when i try it on minority report, it crashes on the second pass every time. also i tried ecodeing just a small part of a movie, and it still crashes when its time to start the second pass. please, could someone tell me whats going on? its like i cant encode a movie anymore! this is really starting to make me mad! it never did this before, and it wasnt up until i got my new radeon 9800 pro, it really started to do it. when i has my radeon 9000, it crashed sometimes, but never to the extent of what it does now. please help. my specs:

athlon xp 2100+
512mb ram
radeon 9800 pro
win xp

Start by telling us what conversion software you're using. Which encoder do you use? In short, someone may be able to figure out where your problem is using the information you've supplied, but I cannot. If CCE is your encoder, until more help happens along, search out threads on "CCE crashes", there are many of them archived here. If you've had success with your recent setup, but are stumbling on "Minority Report", run a search on that particular title, I seem to recall that there were problems encountered with its conversion. Have you tried re-installing your old vid card and running an encode on "Minority Report"? This would be one way of isolating your problem, if it is, in fact, your new card.

will try. i dont have alot of time right now. but if it is my new video card, what should i do? go exchange it for another of the same kind?

heres what happened. first of all, i dont think its my video card, if i DID have a bad video card, i think i would be having more problems then one program crashing, and so far, everything runs super sweet. also, i just finished encoding 'one flew over the cukoo's nest,'(and excuse me if i sound simplistic when describing what i did) i used xmpeg to encode the .avi, divx 5, then i ecoded it with nandub, having no problems. but recently i have been using 3vix to encode a constant quality video, and i would use that as my source in nandub, perhaps 3vix is my problem? right now i'm encodeing minority report again with divx, we'll see how it goes.

Nandub is specific to DivX 3.11 SBC. I don't quite understand what you're trying to accomplish. If you're using Xmpeg to create a DivX 5 encoding, why are you then post-processing in Nandub? Creating a DivX 3 from a DivX 5 source?

Perhaps I've misunderstood, but to transcode from lossy codec to lossy codec degrades quality. It doesn't solve your problem, of course, but it garnered my attention. If this seems obvious to you, note that you are posting in the Newbies forum.

no, you havent misunderstood. i do encode from divx 5 to divx 3, not sure why, but it never bothered me. should i just delete div5 and go get div 3.11, will there be less quality loss? i dont mind doing what i do now because a long time ago i would encode i movie with one pass, with a bitrate of like 600, and if anyone you have seen a bitrate of 600 in xmpeg, its horrible, although i was able to tolerate it. but what can i do to get a better encode? what does everyone else do?

anyways, i encodeed monority report, it ecoded, but there are some major problems. this happened in 'one flew over the cuckoos nest,' when i would watch it, on the very bottom of the video, there would be blue lines, or green specks, or sometime nothing at all. what is happening? also, when minority rpt finished, it had barley any color and everything was all slanted! it was horrible out of proportion, this has happened before, but i just re-ecoded the movie and it was fixed. what i causing this?

couls someone else give me another way of encodeing video, because i kno wi'm doing things wrong.

Well, you're taking an extra step and losing information in the process. If you want to end up with DivX 3.11 SBC, then encode directly to it, and skip the intermediate lossy codecs.
