Today's paper has OfficeMax ad offering a 50 pack of DVD-R for $9.99 net.
$39.99 - $10 instant discount - $20 mail in rebate.
That's 20 cents per disc!
There appears to be no limit, good until 1/24/04.
I'm heading over to take a look. I'll update with more details.
Looks like Starmedia based on this:

Yah, I went in the afternoon (I live in San Jose, CA), and it was all sold out. 50 for 10 bucks is like the price of some expensive CD-R spindle!!! I thought it was a type. I'm going to try to get some ASAP.
Tell me if you got some of them, and if the make is reputable!
Thanks!

You should be able to get a raincheck, which is even better since you can pick them up over time. Get a year's supply. :-)
There was no limited quantity clause.

Any way I can get them online?
A years supply would be nice, for 1/20th the cost.
I can usually get media for 1 dollar each, which is a good price, but 20 cents was amazing.
Any word on the media type or manufacturer code?
Actually, my friend found 1 case behind a counter (don't ask what he was doing there  ). So I should see how good the media is in a few days. The office max in my area told people that they can only take 1 spindle per customer, and most people complied (despite no written limit). There are actually 2 in my area, so I'll just keep on calling them, and seeing if they get anymore in stock.
Any idea why there are so cheap?

I had just ordered and paid for a pack of Ritek from PCClub at $19.95 for 25 before I saw this ad. I picked those up yesterday; I'll try to get my hands on some of these and get the mfg id off it.
Mosaic, I agree cheap has proven to be crap, having been burned by a pack of Princo faking to be TDK. Just have to stay tuned to who makes the media in the cakebox.

Omax was also running a deal for 25pk Imation DVD+R for $15 after $20 MIR. These are excellent discs (Ricoh 4x). However, they are probably sold out and Omax rebates suck, big time. I've only gotten 1/2 of the rebates I've sent in to Omax without calling in or following up. So if you aren't going to follow up, don't count on the rebate.

These are 1x Princo's (printed Starlogic), 2x with some drives or firmware hacks. I've been told by OM (store and 1-877) that they only allow 1 rebate per person/household. So there is a limit.
If anyone knows diff about the rebate info let us know 'cause my store was fully stocked. I'll buy them out at 20cents a disc.

mudda_t,
Too bad being Princos, I done with them; I'll stick with tried and true Riteks on my 105.
Yes, limit on the rebates and there appears to be some difference of opinion on the amount of the rebate.

I can't believe people are still buying Princo's...
People. there is a reason they are 20 cents a disk....
think about it.
I still remember when I went to Fry's and saw a single DVD-R in jewel case for $70 bucks (yes seventy).

Yeah, I've been to that search site before, and it is extremely valuable. It seems like Imation discs aren't too bad in terms of qualiy. My Memorex discs are working like a charm, but I can't find them on sale again. I guess I'll have to wait for something to happen. I have about 12 discs left, so I can last a month.
