I just want to ask if new (easier) tools are comming up.
I'm thinking about a solution like dvd2svcd for SVCD's.
Not because I'm lazy but if english is a foreign language for you, guides like the duplicate PGC guide from Eyes`Only (finding Nemo) are difficult to understand and even more difficult to use successfully.

The big 3 will always be a set of multiple tools. The different authors are working together to get optimal integration, but still it are different tools.

Besides that is the big three not the easiest way to backup a dvd. It's not meant to be an easy one click tool. It's meant to be a method to make high quality backups. The tools used like CCE and scenarist ask for a fair amount of knowledge.

IMHO everyone should at least do some titles manually using all those tools. In this way you'll learn the basics, which will help you to aolve problems later on. Besides that it will make you appreciate all those wonderfull tools even more :D

I totally agree with Eyes`Only. Big three are doing 90% of the job to obtain a very good quality, and this is the 90 % harder to do. If one day they do the last 10%, there will be people complaining that they are not doing this 10 % in a good way

Video related subject are not easy subject. I'm doing DVD myself with my own DV footages, and editing DV + authoring a DVD is HAAAAAAAAAARDDDD.

The reamining 10% part of the job will make you understand a little how a DVD works. This is the object of such site : learning.

The guys who are working on this tools are doing a GREEAT job, and i want to thank them here.

lol, if you are looking for the easy way out there are always one-clickers. why waste a little time learning when you can click a button and make a crappy backup?

Eyes' Only, I'm sorry if I offended or upset you. My post was an attempt at humour but it clearly missed the mark. I apologise.

Peace, Beastie.

EDIT: Comment removed so as not to provoke another member.

Can we rename the "big 3" to the big 4 and include numenu4u?

or the big 5 or big 6 if we include cce and scenarist or big 7 if we include ifoupdate ;) It's just a name people and I would refer to it as a method rather then a bunch of tools.

Sounds like you have not understand my inital posting.
I'm not lazy and I'm willing lern. "normal" DVD's are more or less easy to backup with the big3.
My problems are starting with more complicated DVD's i.e. the one which need to be done by vobid or duplicate pgc's.
Without an good (meaningfull) translation, there are many points were you can run into trouble.

dvd2svcd does main movie only backups. So, if you want a main movie only backup tool for DVD-R, you already have it. It is called .... drumroll please .... dvd2svcd. Just set it to dvd output and you're all set. It's just as easy, but requires Scenarist to author the disc. Alternative, there's dvd2dvd-r which does the same but can also use ifoedit for authoring (with all the problems that involves - NTSC titles with pulldown get out of synch).
