I am trying to convert mp3 to mp2 so I have dvd compliant audio files with minimal quality loss and file size as small as possible
My problem is no matter what I try in Besweet or HeadAC3he the end result is a mp2 file but there is a slight popping noise in the background
It's not on the original mp3
any ideas how to stop this or is there a better method of conversion from mp3 to a dvd compliant file ?

Please post your logfile. If you used toolame.dll, try to use mp2enc.dll instead, that may resolve the problem.

O.K.,
seems there's nothing wrong. Which version of BeSweet is this?
One thing: DVD2SVCD always adds error protection to the files (shouldn't have any influence on playback) with the -e switch in -mp2enc() section.
One thing you could try, is to decode the MP3 with MADplay to WAV first and then encode in BeSweet to MP2. Does toolame.dll have this issue also?

that's not a complete log file, the complete one would show version info on BeSweet as well as the .dll's

Unfortunately there are problems when converting compressed format > compressed format and upsampling to 48khz, see this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67005). Try the latest beta of BeSweet, or you may have to resort to intermediate steps.

all resampling issues are relevant for BeSweet v1.4, which is more than one year old.

@Dg
Apologies, should have specified v1.4.
@jayos
Your quality will be higher if you convert directly with the latest beta of besweet due to the full floating point process.
