hi,

in order to get the best image quality while watching XviD encoded videos, which post processing settings should be turned on ? (i'm using XviD 1.0 Beta3 )

when i select filters>advanced>xvid>about in bsplayer beta 1.0.0.803 i can see some options below:

--------------------------------------------------------
+ Brightness

+ Postprocessing
- Deblocking(Y) -Deblocking(UV) -Dering -Film Effect

+ Output
- Flip Video [No Force/RGB24/RGB32/YUY2/YV12]
--------------------------------------------------------

if a patient xvid guru :) can explain me each of them what they do and should i turn it on or off i'll be very grateful

ps: i dont have any performance issues as a user of p4 2.4c with DC DDR 400, i'm just looking for quality ;)

Brightness does nothing, neither does de-ring. The interface for both was disabled after b3.

thanx 4 the answer :)

so both de-ring & brightness are dummy.

what about deblocking - do they any positive effect turning them on ?

Depends if you would rather blocks or possible loss of detail from deblocking.

I just use "film effect" with ffdshow. It can really improve the perceived quality.

It depends on the movie.

If say it is a 2+ cd movie (high quality with no blocks) then there is (obviously;) ) no need to apply a deblocking filter.

But A movie with noticable blocks in it can look better if it has some deblocking applied to it.
In my experience try just (Y) or (UV) alone first and see if either of them does the best job by itself first.

Get a high quality movie and apply film effect. If you like what it does leave it on, if not disable it again.
