Sorry, and here's just another question:

How do I record AC3 (or dts) that ist played by an external device, connected through S/P-DIF with the computer?

AC3 and dts are bit-streaming formats while the standard CD-A format is PCM coded. Every audio editor is able to record from S/P-DIF and interprets and handles the input as PCM. But how do I save the "Wave" in order to have it interpreted as AC3 or dts later? Are there tools around which convert the pseudo wave into the correct format?

Thanks a lot in anticipation...

Yes, BeSplit converts AC3-Wavs and DTS-Wavs to standard DTS/AC3. See the DTS and AC3 FAQs, linked in my signature.

Hi KpeX,

yes, by accident I knew... :-)

But: How do I create an AC3- or dts-Wave file from S/P-DIF input?

I'm recording from S/P-DIF to an 48k / 16 bit mono file (giving the typical noise when played back as wave), but still this doesn't do the trick...: your mentioned conversion leads to an "illegal file", the playback via digital output to an external DD / dts decoder also just gives the noise, because the playback is recognized as PCM and not as AC3 or dts, what would be if created from an original wave by e.g. Surcode's CD Pro. Seems to be logical, as the recorded file format still is a WAV file with the RIFF header.

Can AC3 or dts be recorded via a usual audio recorder (like Audition, Wavelab or others) at all?

Thanks a lot in anticipation for any clue...
