I tried using that guide/D2SRoBa plug-in/FACAR and ended up with AR and resizing problems. It kept trying to 'shrink' the AR down to 4:3. So I tried several options with FACAR to no success and then finally ended up deleting everything (restored a previous DriveImage) and just installed the D2SRoBa plug-in alone. It also gave me problems with AR... it would 'shrink' the AR to 4:3 and then fill the widescreen by stretching the image sideways. I finally gave up and just 'dump' the plug-in and now everything is fine again.
Funny thing is if I had been using my 4:3 TV (instead of my Widescreen playing through my HTPC) I would never have known (seen) there was an AR problem with the output.

Interesting post monomer...

Which plug-in were you refering to? The FACAR?

Both... I've been using DVD2SVCD (in the 'form' of DVD2DVD) since September with great results. However recently I began visiting this forum and following up on links... that's where I learned about 'one-pass' with the D2SRoBa plug-in and found the above guide... where I then also downloaded the FACAR plug-in and merged in the registry settings from the guide. Then following the guide 'verbatim' and using "Last of the Mohicans" as my 'test' movie, I finished re-encoding this movie in record time (3.5 hours as it usually takes 7+hours @ 3-passes) but what it produced was the re-encoded movie proportionally reduced in size to fit a 4:3 screen (ie. "black bars" all around). So I tried forgoing the 'FACAR borderdetect' step and went with FACAR with Resize=7 and later tried FACAR Resize=0 then try it without running FACAR at all but instead leaving it at "BicubicResize"... all re-encoded movies ended with no difference it the output. So I thought it must be the FACAR still somehow trying to resize so I restored my DriveImage from before the addition of the plug-ins/registry merge... and this time I only install the D2SRoBa plug-in. This time the movie was again reduced to proportionately to 4:3 but now my DVD player chooses to stretch the movie to fill the width of the screen... I can cycle through various ARs but the only one that looks proportionally correct is again 4:3. Finally after restoring ('thank heavens for DriveImage') DVD2SVCD to a time before any plug-ins and registry merges, I'm back in 'business'.

I started monkeying around with D2SRoBa a couple of months ago, using guides and advice I've picked up from this site; there's a lot of great information on this site's forums!!! It would be a long time before I felt "at home" at the "Advanced topics" forum, or able to keep up with a lot of the more technical discussions. I'll continue to follow the progress of DVD2SVCD and D2SRoBa, but for right now I'll stick with multi-pass VBR encoding, as old hat/time and CPU intensive as it might be.

@monomer,

Neither D2Sroba nor FACAR mess with your registry settings. DVD2SVCD does not either on resizing matters. All is on the INI files. You may have spotted a bug on FACAR, so a log showing the settings of this effect would be really helpful.

Particularly, the kind of source you are using and the DVD2SVCD AR settings would be helpful.

I've had the exact problem myself. r6d2, you helped me a few weeks ago in this thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=68210) which actually started at this thread on CCE (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67837). What I failed to realize was that my intial black border problem was a 4:3 resize on a widescreen movie. Then I was just getting horizontal shrinkage only after mucking with some INI settings. The one thing that I can think of off the top of my head was that I didn't have the Advanced option set on my first two runs, thus was not given the pick-list to select a destination size, so I'm not sure what it defaulted to.

The problems seemed to manifest themselves when toggling between FACAR Detect Borders and FACAR when the preview screen was up.

However, I'm still chalking my issues up to me being a first-timer at these tools...

In the next few weeks I'll do a reinstall of the tools and run a few more movies to see if I can reproduce it.
