DVD2AVI Banding problems

I've recently bought a phillips dvdr70 dvd recorder,
when i try to rip and convert the recordings the video has severe
motion banding, this banding apears in the dvd2avi preview and in
the finished rip, i have tried forced film and other settings in dvd2avi to no effect, the banding does not apear when the dvd is played with powerdvd or wmp or on the phillips recorder.
i am using dvd2avidg 1.77.3dg1.0.0RC2 with MPEG2Dec3dg.dll and GordianKnot v0.29 alpha, video format is pal 25fps interlaced 4:3.
this setup has worked flawlessly with commertial dvds.
if anyone can offer any help/seggestions i would be grateful

Without seeing a sample image, I'd say it "sounds" like interlacing artifacts. See http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34696 for more info.

you were correct jggimi the effect im getting is exactly as seen in picture of picard in the url you posted.
deinterlacing removed the banding, but now i have motion blur/ghosting/trails from fast moving objects in the video.
is there anyway to clean that up?

In the tutorial pointed to by the link above, you'll see a list of seven different deinterlacing methodologies, with pros and cons. In Gknot's Save AVS window, you'll see most of those options presented in the Field Operations section, plus a few more recent options than aren't discussed in the tutorial. Since the impact of each will be dependant on the content and your chosen resolution, I recommend using Gknot's Preview button to test various deinterlacing filters, and pick the one that meets your needs.
