SLOW speeds when dif4u demuxes to secondary HDD

I used Alcohol 120% to create and image drive. I load the dvd image onto the drive. Go through the dif4u process and click "do it." It opens up dvd decrypter and the max speed i will get is only about 2.4x I know that is relatively slow but im not too sure what can be wrong? I have two 100 gig 5400rpm maxtor drives, and whenever demuxing i always send it to the secondary drive. I have a athlon xp 2600 with 512 ddr ram. ALL of my drives are in ULTRA DMA MODE. Not sure to do any tips would be highly reccomended, thanks!! :confused:

Hi Ironmonk,

2 points you might verify:
- Is DMA enabled for your CD/DVD drive (if not, it slows down the drive attached to the same ide channel)

-try changing the ide channel for the second drive

you can try nero->file->preferences-> cache to test the speed of your different disks

i get like 2x from same hd to same hd.. but my system is slow.. from a secondary hd i get 6x+ again.. my pc is slow (2000xp with little ram)

Ok so i ran that cache test you suggested and the results are as follow:

C:\17,267 kb/s (OS installed on this partition)
D:\25,587 kb/s
E:\24,985 kb/s
F:\23,820 kb/s

I have two hdd's, would partitioning these hdd's into smaller partitions possibly cause slower speeds? Because my secondary hdd is split up into about 4 partitions.

If you do read/write operations between 2 partitions on the same physical disk, your disk operations will be very slow.

If it is between 2 partitions on different disks there shouldn't be a big difference. (did you verify DMA for your dvd-rom?)

Unless you have another OS, making partitions if you have more then 1 disk is not very useful imho. but we're getting off topic here

ah cool i got it fixed, i found out i was transferring file between two hdd's on different partitions which was giving me REAL slow speeds :-D thx for all the help guys
