I am trying to remove the bad language from bruce almighty so my kids can watch it. I ripped my dvd and then useing cool edit pro 2.0 I extracted the audio from the vob file I need to edit. I fixed the foul parts now I want to Remove the original audio from the vob and add the edited audio back to the vob. I want to burn the edited version when I'm finished.
How do I remove the audio from the vob and add the new audio?

With cool edit pro save your file as a WAV. Then with besweet you can create an AC3 file out of it.

I'm not familiar with DVD burning since I don't own one, so I can't help you with the burning and Muxing of it. Hopefully someone else will.

Welcome to the forum, fomhinter!

I don't have your answer, but there's been a thread running in General Discussion for some time now on removing profanity (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=67781). You can subscribe to a thread without actually posting to it by finding the "subscribe to this thread" button which is located at the bottom of each thread. That way, even if you don't have anything new or relevant to offer on the topic, you'll receive an e-mail prompt each time a new post hits that particular thread.

Use vobedit for demuxing the audio from the video and then use a dvd authoring program, like dvdlab, tmpeg dvd author etc to mux the audio with your newly created audio in ac3 or wav to a complete title set.

I demux the vob with vobedit but the original vob retains the original audio.

with vobedit I now have a seperate audio which is the whole movie.
I can demux the whole movie into an avi but what I am trying to do is edit just the one vob.

Why not just have childrens eyes and ears surgically removed. Because the outside world is so unpredictable, you can never be assured they won't see or hear something "inappropriate". You must protect the children. :D

@Happygolucky:

As far as I can tell, the topic of this thread entails the editing of audio. If you have nothing positive to add to the thread, I'd strongly urge you to refrain from posting. Rule #11 of the Forum Rules (http://forum.doom9.org/forum-rules.htm) covers this quite nicely.

Try using DVD decrypter to demux the different streams for you. Set it to use File Mode. Then you can get the movie and the audio seperately. After you edit the audio, you can combine them into vob's again.

Here is a step by step mini guide from all the hints that have been suggested in this thread.

1. Use vobedit to demux your audio and video. Don't forget to check the demux whole set in order to get the whole of the audio/video.

2. Use besweet to transform audio to a wav
3. Use CoolEdit to open and edit the wav. Dont cut the offending parts, u will loose sychro with the video, just silence them.
4. Use SoftEncode to turn the wav to ac3 again. U can use any other wav to ac3 utility for this actually.
5. If u want subs, u can rip them using subrip, in this point.
6. Fire up your authoring program, drop in video, new audio and subs if any and build a new title set.
If u want to recreate the exact same structure as the original u can keep the menus too, but that is a bit of a hassle that the kids wouldn't notice missing, so I would stop at step 6.
7. imgtools classic for creating the image and burning it with decrypter.

If u have done a backup before its really a piece of cake, if this is your first time there r parts in this steps that can be tricky.

Just report back any problems u ll encounter and we will do our best to solve them.

how about I go and buy a six pack of beer and a pack of cigaretts and give them to the kids "Because the outside world is so unpredictable, you can never be assured they won't see or hear something "inappropriate". ."

@fomhinter:

Take a look at the advice I've given Happygolucky, as it now applies to you as well. Give a good eyeball to #4 of the Forum Rules while you're at it, and keep in mind, it makes no difference "who chunked the rock first". Please, gentlemen, let this be the end of the conflict or this thread will close.

On a more positive note, why don't you report back on your results using the "mini guide" that Oddyseus has so graciously supplied? I'm sure that that would be a great help to others facing the same dilemma.
