I encoded an ogg audio file from an AC3 file with headac3he 0.23a.
I want to add that audio stream with my video stream through Nandub, but when i select the ogg file nandub crashes.
"crash reason: access viloation"
"wrong nandub.dbg file (build 1853)"

Let me get this right... You want to mux ogg vorbis into an AVI? If so I would suggest you re-think and go for OGM or MKV as a container.

vorbis in avi = no worky.

uhm...:D *lmao*, im confused now....
so why does Nandub has OGG support anyway?
and wouldn't it be more user-friendly to pop up a dialog box instead of crashing?
Btw: I have exact the same crash problem and I'm stuck now with my encoding process. I exactky followed the guides DVDtoXVID and all the necessary sub-guides. And I'm sure thesinoftime did that, too.
Thus the guides are misleading, or more exact the DVD to XVID avi guide links to a r4r Guide which suggests to encode the audio to Ogg. The author of the XVID guide isn't aware of the fast that the r4r guide does that and therefore nothing is written in the XVID guide about Ogg being incompatible with AVI. Of, course the r4r guide is a more general guide I think and the author is not aware and is not to be blamed that there is no warning about oggs crashing nandub.
These links won't work anyway, but better than nothing:
r4r guide: http://www.doom9.org/r4r-guide.htm
xvid guide (with sub-links to other guides): http://www.doom9.org/xvid.htm
Btw2: Where are the OGM/MKV Guides (I know there aren't any)? Id there a VirtualDub mod that can handle these formats or do these projects provide their own tools for that (I know they do)?

The links work fine, however the only reference to audio in the r4r guide that I can see is "and you can also see what these tracks will be encoded to: 128kbit VBR MP3." hardly a suggestion to use vorbis.
As for Nandub, I am sure that it seemed like a good idea at the time (3 years ago or whatever). I can remember experimenting with ogg vorbis in AVI back then as I am sure others can (Nandub, mediaXW, etc.).
VirtualDubMod can handle vorbis audio, it just can't encode it. You need to encode seperatly and then add it to the streams menu thing. You would also need to save out either an ogm or mkv.
For MKV you can use mmg to mux say a video only AVI and a vorbis stream. There are also several programs for OGM that can do the same; OggMux, OggMuxNic, OGMGUI, etc.
Edit: Ok, just noticed the screenshot with ogg highlighted. Can't see what that has to do with NanDub though.

Yes, indeed the links work. I have some trouble with linked pages to doom9, so I expected them to not work for Opera users.
About the Vorbis audio, the guides don't explicitly say use this or that, but both formats are presented as if there was no trouble in using them. In this (http://www.doom9.org/r4r-firsttime.htm) sub-quide there's again a reference to the most commonly used formats MP3 and Ogg Vorbis. So a clever guy who came from the XVid2AVI guide chooses Vorbis since XVid is free, too... of course the r4r guide author cannot to be blamed for not warning about using illegit containers that another guide which refers to his is about.
So the guides are a bit outdated? Hmm, maybe the concept which they are about is, but the actual guides have been updated the last year.
Now this leads me to a more general question, will there be a revised Guide section in the near future? Meaning that other containers will get introduced as the better alternatives to the first time visitor of doom9? Would be great.
Those program names you have listed are very helpful I will check them. Basically I want to stick to XVid and Vorbis, so I guess a the OGM way will be the path to go.
EDIT:
- OggMux works great. :D
- correct me if I'm wrong, but VirtualDubMod has no Audio support at all? The "Audio" menu is missing. That's the reason why the Gordian Knot packs use still use outdated Nandub, as you call it.
But still this is like a jungle of information for me, and I'm feeling lost. Tho I know doom9 for quite some time now, I have't managed to get a full overview of all possibilities yet and more important, I realise, the impossibilities. And things like this, following an outdated guide and not knowing what to do instead with the encoded streams, is something that rather puts me deeper into this jungle.
Anyway thanks so far. :D

Hmm, any Nandub developer who might be reading this thread should check this anyway...
I doesn't seem to be all right, if the program crashes. It doesn't matter if Vorbis in AVI is not a good thing or impossible. It definitely should not crash the program, since Nandub claims to have Ogg Vorbis muxing support. As I said before a simple pop-up dialog warning the user about muxing Vorbis into AVI is sufficient.

Simple: If you choose "Ogg/Vorbis Audio..." under the "Audio" Menu, and select your ogg audio file, Nandub crashes.

Didn't look like a screenshot of NanDub to me though. I am thinking that r4r is intended to be used with more containers than just AVI, therefor it offers support for audio formats that AVI doesn't support.
As I said with VirtualDubMod, the audio is added to the streams list.
Open your video source, select streams from the menu, then stream list and add your ogg file.
As for NanDub developers, I seem to recall someone working on a NanDub 2, maybe you should check that out and see if anything regarding vorbis has changed.

"crash reason: access violation"
"wrong nandub.dbg file (build 1853)"
It just means the dbg file does not match the nandub build...
Not really important here, unless you want the user
to send some technical feedback about the problem (such as stack dump etc.)
But here, I guess the problem is clearly located,
and since others solutions works,
i doubt anyone is gonna fix it, starting by me...
In others words, if you want to do sbc div3, use nandub.
Otherwise use vdubmod or vdub... depending what you want to do...
(for information nandub is based on vdub 1.4~c )
