DVD Decrypter Help

I used DVD Decrypter to rip one of my DVD's to backup.
I noticed that the ripped file was approx. 5.3GB while the DVD-R disk that I bought (Verbatim) was only 4.7GB.

Am I missing a step here ?

Will DVDD allow me to burn a large ISO and than burn it onto a DVD-R disk (burn process through DVDD) ?

hi and welcome to the forums!
I noticed that the ripped file was approx. 5.3GB while the DVD-R disk that I bought (Verbatim) was only 4.7GB. this is very typical of commercial dvds released today (it is also very common for them to exceed 8 GB in size.
so now you have some decisions (and a lot of reading) to do :D
you have many options avaliable.

you could use a 'one click' tool to transcode (reduce) the file size so that it can fit onto a single dvd- examples of these programs are dvdshrink, recode etc. - you can check out One click DVD backup solutions forum (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&forumid=65) for topics on this process.

you could also split the movie over 2 disks - using dvdfab or ifoedit - check out IFO/VOB Editors Forum (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=30&forumid=50) for some reading

you can also 'strip' out unwanted content/audio/subtitles etc.
and you can also use commercial tools to 're-encode' your movie to a smaller size.

all of these methods have their pros and cons so it will have to be up to you to decide which way you want to proceed.

no worries matey, glad to help.
just a suggestion ... but you might like to start with trying dvdshrink. the latest version is avaliable for download at doom9 mainpage - its up to v3.1.2.
its very easy to use and its free. :D
it should also produce good results on a dvd which only requires a little bit of 'shrinking'

Hi Jel

OK.
I used DVDD to rip the DVD in file mode to my hard disk.
I than downloaded DVD Shrink and used it to reduce the size of the files.
What do I do next ?
Will DVDD allow me to burn the "reduced" DVD or will I need to use some other tool to make an ISO before DVDD will allow me to burn it to a DVD-R media ?

sorry, but look into dvdshinks menus.
If you don't have nero installed:

just create the dvd on the HD.
Download the newest nero
select: dvd-video
move the files into the VIDEO_TS folder
burn.
should run

Thanks for all your help.
I succesfully backed up one of my DVD'd and it works.
USed DVDD to rip in file mode to HDD, used DVDS to reduce the size, used ImgTools to create ISO and used DVDD to burn. Worked a treat.

Now to get a standalone DVD Player that will play DVD+- R/RW ....
