What's the best build right now for long term storage of video? 1.0 b3 or something else?

I think interlaced is mainly for testing purposes. There really is not need to encode interlaced unless your source is purely interlaced. And I don't think that standalone MPEG-4 players support it well.

Get the latest beta build from Koepi. If you capture some interlaced stuff you can preserve interlaced structure when compressing with XviD. If you want to watch it on TV it will save you the time to deinterlace. You can also deinterlace during viewing by using ffdshow.

At least it keeps the 'progressive' structure of the pics and doesnt 'interlace' it :p

Just wanted to say that I think XviD's deinterlacing option should only be checked when you're capturing from TV directly to XviD. Otherwise, if you have the source you're encoding from on disc, I would use one of the many deinterlacers out there in an Avisynth script.

xvid does not have any deinterlaceing from what i understand it takes the input video and encodes it as progresive or interlaced (If you checked that option)

only divx has an option to deinterlace all frames.

Hm, yes, guess you're right. I'm not at my computer now, so I can't see the dialog and to be honest, I never used the interlaced checkbox. All I can say: interlaced DVDs look horrible on a computer monitor. Deinterlacers in the decoding programs (WinDVD, PowerDVD....) do produce an output that inferior to what some avisynth deinterlacers produce. (Hey, I did a rip from an interlaced DVD that was actually better than the original ;) ) So I think this will still hold true when XviD encodes this stuff interlaced. But you're right, my answer was not very profound. (I tried to avoid something like that)

AFAIK checking 'Interlaced' will not make XviD decode it and deinterlace it on the fly. It will just make sure that whatever bitrate etc. you set that the interlaced structure is preserved and not lost due to compression.

I have an ADVC100. It dumps DV video by default. I don't think it's interlaced. Is there a way to capture DV directly to XviD?
