When Bitrate viewer reports a vob is Interlaced/Prog it is actually reading the first GOP.

I have found that some of my PAL DVDs have one GOP at the very begining as Interlaced when the rest are Progressive. You can read the flags on the GOPS with vobedit.

Unfortunately I have seen a lot of guides saying to use Bitrate Viewer to see if a DVD is intrelaced or progressive.

Do not trust bitrate viewer Always check in VBUDMod or directly in the vobs with vobedit.

As a test I used Camtasia Studio to record the statistics screen area of DVD2AVI. The very first frame of the dvd film displayed Interlaced and then switched over to Progressive.

Does anybody know why just the first GOP of a PAL DVD Film is often marked as Interlaced? Are they just trying to confuse newbies in Happy Progressive PALland
