At one time I read a post here where someone was wondering how to increase the volume in dvd2svcd because of low volume in his rear speakers on his surround sound system...I searched for his post, but can no longer find it...I want to do this, at least increase the sound anyway...I realize surround is not possible, but I had it set before so it was enhanced, but cannot remember what the setting were and where to change them.
Can someone please help? Thanks in advance!!!

In the audio tab, next to the Besweet path is a little dropdown menu button (arrowhead pointing down). You can adjust the surround type (surround2 is pro-logic II) and downmix settings there (I use +1 in the surround too).

thanks ralphthedog...can you post your settings so I can compare them to mine...what advantage did you acheive when doing this?

I am basically just trying to get more sound out of my rear speakers...I have my surround sound system adjusted as high as the rear speakers will go and I feel it's just not enough.:D

I just use settings that approximate the sound balance I have for DVD's on my home theater. I guess it might be a little different for whatever comination of DVD player/home theatre anybody might have.

I use: Surround2 (pro logic II), LFE downmix into LR +1,Surround into LR +1, Dynamic compression - light and everything else 0 or OFF.

You might want to be careful if you don't have that big an amplifier though (or if it's turned up a whole lot already!). I get the feeling adding lots of plus type numbers to secondary channels might result in the need to use a higher volume setting. You can't have everything louder than everything else?!

thanks again.. ralphthedog,

I have a Sony Surround Sound System that my Apex is hooked up to, due to the fact that I was "one" of those "spontaineous buyers that went out right away and bought a surround system before finding out the facts...the system kick***, but the sony dvd player does not play svcd...but the apex does. I think I will leave my settings alone for now until I do some more reading. Thanks for the help!

Still doesn't stop you doing a bit of back to back type testing @madmaninc to get the most out of your SVCD's!

Just Convert an impressive DVD chapter (surround sound wise) and mess with one thing at a time and see what happens.

If your system lacks a bit of oomph, or you have to run your SVCD player through analog type inputs you should try turning up the dynamic compression in DVD2SVCD so your system doesn't have to cope with such a large dynamic range.

Also try to use a high audio bitrate (192-224), I think the surround, and especially the lower frequencies really suffer at low bitrates.
