View Full Version : Can someone post the right settings for PAL DVD Extras

I'm currently using DVDShrink to do my extras before "Big 3ing" the movie because I can't figure out what settings to use for extras (interlaced material) - no matter what I try I get that crap ghosting shakiness.

I tried de-interlacing at one point but the results were rubbish. Is there no way to just tell CCE to leave the video interlaced for extras?

Has anyone successsfully backed up an entire PAL DVD and if so what settings are used?

My programs/versions:

DoItFast4U 1.4.3.0
BatchCCEws 0.9.1.2
ReAuthorist 1.0.0.0
eclCCE 1.7b
CCE 2.67.00.23

Cheers

did you read my cce 2.67 notice?

Certainly did and very good it was too although I've been trying to do this since CCE 2.50 and only recently upgraded to 2.67+ so if someone could just post the settings I will revert to whatever version of CCE neccessary.

I use a standard script like this:

import("C:\Program Files\DoItFast4U2\new.avs\addaudio.avs")

LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\DoItFast4U2\new.avs\mpeg2dec3.dll")

Mpeg2Source("VTS__14_P01.I-BFF.4~3_1.d2v",idct=0)

AddAudio()

ConvertToYUY2(interlaced=true)

Since I used invert filenaming in dif4u this source is actually TFF and thus I did not check top field first in docce/batchccews. results are quite good even at low bitrates. Some blockyness, but that's because of low bitrates and the fact that interlaced material needs way more bitrate then progressive material.

Thanks influenza but back up the truck a sec - do I send the jobs into BatchCCEws then edit the avisynth script from there or do that step somewhere else?

Is that a generic script that will work with most PAL DVD extras?

Are there any other settings that need changing in BatchCCEWs/CCE for this to work?

This is a generic script created with dif4u. It should work on all Pal interlaced extras.

wHY NOT USE DIF4U TO DO THINGS AUTOMATED FOR YOU?

After creating all the scripts and so just fire up docce load the ccedata.txt created by dif4u and let docce do it's work. Make sure you set the setting invert filenaming in the global options/other options to get it to work correctly.

I'll do some more testing and get back to you, cheers.

i agree with influenzas strategy of letting DIF4U automate your avisynth script for you.
the only thing i change in DOCCE4U is change the 'progressive' setting to 'alternate' scan, which all my interlaced PAL gets set to by default.
results to date vary from acceptable blockiness on my tft computer monitor to excellent on my standalone/TV.
edit/ and i always encode the extras at around 2000 - 2100 bitrate.

Just out of interest what sort of q values are you getting in CCE? With interlaced material (encoded as such) at low bitrates.

I mean the values displayed in CCE (advanced/bit allocation window) after encoding if you load avs/ecl with same bitrate values, etc you used.

What do I do if I don't go from DoItFast4U straight to BatchCCEws but am using ReAutorist? Haven't really got any films to test with at the moment but will this make any difference?

you don't do much. ANy way you choose, the info in the avs files will be used, so it really doesn't matter if you go from dif4u to docce or from RA

Thanks for that :) I *think* the q factor is correct (the max isn't, some sort of CCE bug), in which case that's surprisingly good for interlaced full res at that bitrate. At least given a recent experience of mine.
